A unique new school for South London

Deutsche Bilingual Primary School will be a non-denominational bilingual primary school teaching children aged 4 to 11. Our planned intake is 50 children per year. The school would open in Southwark or a nearby borough in September 2013.

Deutsche Bilingual Primary School will offer a unique service to parents and communities in our area:

  • We will teach bilingually in English and German;
  • Academic excellence in core subjects will provide a solid basis for successful learning;
  • We will emphasise tolerance, mutual respect, and social responsibility, and will guide children towards becoming mature citizens in later life;
  • Our teachers will be fluent speakers of English and / or German, with the qualifications and backgrounds to enrich our children's experiences in the school;
  • Our head teacher will be an exceptional leader, passionate about our ideals, and ideally bilingual or nearly bilingual.

There are currently no English-German bilingual schools in the UK and few bilingual schools in any language. Population increases and demographic factors will lead to rising demand for school places across South London. So far, 376 families have expressed an interest in the school for a total of 538 school-age children.

Our vision is for children at Deutsche Bilingual Primary School to live and learn two or more cultures, preparing them to become socially active and open-minded citizens.

Our bilingual early immersion model, combined with a strong grounding in academic subjects, will foster excellence. A stimulating, enjoyable environment will give pupils a foundation for life-long learning, and allow them to develop important social and personal skills. In an area of great social and economic diversity, our integrative approach will have direct benefits and increase social mobility.
